Round 9: Liang Woi Lun vs. Benjamin Huang
Noel Neo

Both players are still at six wins with just two more games to go. Losing this one would mean losing the chance to Top 8.

Woi Lun won the die roll and chose to take the odd initiatives.

Benjamin sent his first hand back.

Turn 1:

Woi Lun opened with Qwardian Watchdog, and Benjamin had G’Nort.

Turn 2:

Benjamin missed his drop, while Woi Lun got Weaponers of Qward.

G’Nort was not as effective as the Watchdog was in deterring attackers, and the Weaponers were able to smash past him.

(Woi Lun 50 – Benjamin 48)

Turn 3:

Woi Lun recruited Slipstream in the visible area, and Benjamin played Space Bears. Was this board turning into a cosmic zoo?

Woi Lun had Slipstream and the Weaponers swing into Space Bears, and Benjamin chose to stun Slipstream. He then exhausted G’Nort to Sweeping Up the pieces.

(Woi Lun 47 – Benjamin 45)

Turn 4:

Benjamin recruited Manhunter Excavator, and Woi Lun played Frostbite behind the Watchdog.

The turn ended with the Manhunter swinging into Frostbite for a double stun.

(42 – 41)

Turn 5:

Woi Lun played Power Ring in the concealed area, and Benjamin under-dropped with Fiero in the concealed area.

Frostbite proposed an attack on Space Bears, and Benjamin flipped Sinestro Defiant for the double stun. The Weaponers put Ben’s space dog down.

Power Ring rammed the Manhunter, and Woi Lun flipped Thunderous Onslaught. But Ben had Banished to the Anti-Matter Universe to prevent the character from emerging into the light, thus negating Thunderous Onslaught’s second ability of having the character not stun. Both stunned.

Given the initiative, Ben did not have Fiero attack, but he activated him to burn Woi Lun directly.

Ben lost G’Nort and Space Bears, while Woi Lun lost Frostbite.

(Woi Lun 27 – Benjamin 25)

Turn 6:

Benjamin recruited Kilowog, and Woi Lun played St’nlli in the support row.

Kilowog flew into St’nlli, but Woi Lun had Nero Unleashed for the double stun. Manhunter took out the Qwardian Watchdog. Finally, Fiero activated to burn Woi Lun.

The Watchdog was put down for good.

(8 – 19)

Turn 7:

Woi Lun recruited Ultraman in front of St’nlli. This was the crucial turn, and Benjamin lapsed deep into thought. Finally, he flipped In Evil Star’s Evil Clutches targeting St’Nlli to lose flight. He then under-dropped once more with Superwoman.

Superwoman and Kilowog were in the support row with the Manhunter, protecting Kilowog.

St’nlli attacked Manhunter Infiltrator, and Benjamin flipped No Evil Shall Escape Our Sight to team-up GL and Manhunter, enabling Kilowog to reinforce the Manhunter. Ultraman then swung into Superwoman and KO’d her.

It appeared that the game had reached a stalemate, and Woi Lun seemed to be having some internal conflict about what to do. Since he was at 8 endurance, having any character stun would mean that Fiero would be able to activate to bring him down to 0 or lower.

Woi Lun reached a resolution. He played Banished to the Anti-Matter Universe to clear the path for his final two attackers to attack Benjamin directly for the win.

Woi Lun remains in contention for the Top 8.
