Yoel won the die roll and took the evens—a popular choice today.
Neither player had a 1-drop, but Yoel had a few options for turn 2. He led with Plague, while Daniel had Tar Baby with an Image Inducer.
These decks seemed pretty powerful so far, though the difference between the two was pretty pronounced once turn 3 got underway: Daniel had Tommy for the turn, while Yoel had Enemy of My Enemy. He discarded Tar Baby and fetched Joanna Cargill, who seemed pretty impressive. She only got better with the addition of an Image Inducer.
Daniel had to team attack the massive 3-drop, which was good for the stun. Plague stood back and watched all this; she didn’t feel overly keen on getting into the messy business of revenge.
For turn 4, Yoel recruited Beef from the resource row and a second Image Inducer for his 4-drop. Daniel apologetically responded with the less than spectacular Silver Sabre.
When Yoel hit a Physical card with Beef at the start of the attack step—his deck looked pretty powerful, explaining the 4-0 start. Daniel would have to work a little harder for his position in this game for sure.
Plague traded with Silver Sabre, and then Joanna Cargill and Beef romped over the rest of Daniel’s team. He went to 28, compared to 43 for Yoel. Harry’s Hideaway meant Daniel didn’t lose a whole lot, as he had evaded with Tar Baby that turn. His board hadn’t diminished, but it was still going to be an uphill battle.
‘The comeback starts here!’ Daniel declared, as he played Wolverine, The Best at What He Does.
Yoel responded with Feral, whose ability he used with his final point.
Daniel used Above and Below to full-on team-up and attacked into Beef with his Wolverine. Beef had been beefed up again, but there was still a trade. Silver Sabre got to attack a second time after running down Plague in the first instance. He then took out Joanna Cargill, to stun all of Yoel’s visible board.
Then, it was Feral’s chance to hit back. Yoel sent her at Tar Baby to do a whopping 10. At 21 to his opponent’s 7, it looked like Yoel probably had it, though with just Beef and Feral against Wolverine and Silver Sabre, it suddenly looked a little closer. (Only a little, though.)
Blob, Freedom Force was the recruit for Yoel, who just needed to do the final points, while Daniel had Iceman, Deep Freeze.
Yoel hit for the third turn in a row with Beef, giving Yoel a 12 ATK/10 DEF 4-drop (thanks to Image Inducer), a 12 ATK/13 DEF Blob, and an 11 ATK/4 DEF Feral.
Pack Tactics allowed Beef to fly over at Tommy, who evaded. Silver Sabre was Beef’s next target. Thanks to Brave New World, Silver Sabre could get pumped up off a double Turnabout to save some pain and ensure a mutual stun.
Daniel had done the best he could, but it just wasn’t good enough given the insane draw he had faced. He extended his hand in the face of the next couple of attacks.
Yoel was gracious enough to point out that he had not drawn any of the Sentinels in his deck that really put it over the top.
Yoel Izsak wins!
