Quarterfinals: Lee Keng Yin vs. Jerry Lee
Noel Neo

The games started quickly, with little banter, as each player remained mindful of the stakes they were playing for.

Game 1:

Jerry won the card pick and chose the odd initiatives.

Turn 1:

Jerry had G’Nort, and Keng Yin passed.

(Lee 49 – Jerry 50)

Turn 2:

Keng Yin recruited Dead-Eye in the concealed region, and Jerry had Harlequin in the concealed region, also. Dead-Eye swung into G’Nort, and both ended up in the KO’d pile. Harlequin swung back and forced Keng Yin to discard.

(45 – 47)

Turn 3:

Jerry got Kreon, and Keng Yin had Space Bears. In combat, Kreon and Space Bears double stunned. Keng Yin was force to discard again due to Harlequin. Jerry was netting himself some significant card advantage.

(40 – 44)

Turn 4:

Keng Yin had Rot Lop Fan, and Jerry under-dropped with Hector Hammond.

Rot Lop Fan went for Kreon, and Space Bears went for Hector Hammond.

Jerry lost Kreon.

(40 – 34)

Turn 5:

Jerry recruited Katma Tui, and Keng Yin played Remoni-Notra.

Katma Tui attacked Space Bears, and Jerry flipped Rain of Acorns to exhaust Keng Yin’s remaining two characters. He also flipped No Evil Shall Escape Our Sight to team up Emerald Enemies and Green Lantern.

(36 – 34)

Turn 6:

Keng Yin’s deck construction came back to haunt him as he failed to draw into his single 6-drop. He played Tomar Tu and Owlman. Tomar Tu protected Remoni-Notra, and Space Bears, not having range, stood in the front as well.

Jerry played Sensei in front, with Katma Tui protecting Hector Hammond.

Keng Yin sensed that this turn was crucial in his bid not to fall behind in board position. He lapsed into deep thought. Finally, he proposed Remoni-Notra on Hector Hammond and KO’d it. Jerry chose not to use Katma Tui’s ability before that happened. Keng Yin then paid 2 endurance for Rot Lop Fan to attack Harlequin. Jerry exhausted Harlequin and Katma Tui to gain 5 endurance.

Owlman then attacked Sensei with Thunderous Onslaught and Golden Death to stun it. He then used Banished to the Anti-Matter Universe.

Space Bears and Tomar Tu attacked Jerry directly.

Jerry was left with Sensei and Katma Tui.

(34 – 12)

Turn 7:

Jerry played Ganthet behind Sensei, and Keng Yin played Alan Scott. His formation was as follows: Space Bears and Tomar Tu protected Remoni-Notra and Alan Scott respectively, whilst Owlman perched in the front row.

Sensei attacked Tomar Tu to deal 13 endurance loss. Ganthet attacked Remoni-Notra and stunned her. Jerry then played Lantern’s Light on Rot Lop Fan and used Katma Tui to exhaust Alan Scott through Rain of Acorns.

Jerry gained 10 endurance, and Keng Yin lost Tomar Tu.

(13 – 22)

The game was far from over.

Turn 8:

Keng Yin recruited Ultraman, and Jerry had Dr. Light and Myrwhydden. Dr. Light brought back G’Nort immediately. He formed with Sensei and Myrwhydden, protecting Ganthet and G’Nort respectively. Dr. Light was beside G’Nort.

Rot Lop Fan flew past the defenders to smack G’Nort, and Jerry exhausted him and Katma Tui to gain 5 endurance. Remoni-Notra then went for Myrwhydden. Jerry played Lanterns in Love to recover G’Nort, and Keng Yin was forced to play Only a Friend can Betray You. Space Bears swung into G’Nort and Alan Scott into Sensei. Finally, Owlman and Ultraman swung into Ganthet.

Jerry scooped.

Game 2:

Jerry chose the odd initiatives again.

Turn 1:

Both players passed.

(48 – 50)

Jerry under-dropped with Tomar Re and Kyle Rayner, Last Green Lantern without a construct to search for. Keng Yin recruited Element Man in the concealed area, with both Carol and Frostbite in the back row.

Jerry teamed up Green Lantern and Emerald Enemies with No Evil Shall Escape Our Sight, allowing Dr. Light, Tomar Re, and Kyle Rayner to team up on Frostbite. Keng Yin stunned Tomar Re. Jerry then flipped Rain of Acorns to exhaust Keng Yin’s remaining 2 characters.

Keng Yin lost Frostbite to the Doctor.

(44 – 37)

Turn 6:

Keng Yin under-dropped with Power Ring in the concealed area. Jerry had Sensei once more. For Jerry, Tomar Re and Sensei protected Dr. Light and Kyle Rayner respectively.

Power Ring attacked Sensei with Thunderous Onslaught, whilst Element Man swung into Dr. Light. Carol Ferris attacked Kyle Rayner, and Keng Yin flipped Golden Death to stun Kyle.

Jerry played Lanterns in Love to recover Dr. Light and lost Kyle.

(44 – 24)

Turn 7:

Jerry recruited Ganthet, while Keng Yin had Alan Scott.

Sensei attacked Power Ring to stun him, after which Jerry exhausted Element Man and Alan Scott through Rain of Acorns. Keng Yin then ran Carol into Ganthet to allow him to KO Carol instead of Power Ring to Dr. Ub’X.

Jerry gained 16 endurance and Keng Yin lost Carol.

(34 – 40)

Finally, Scarab brought Kyle Rayner down. Jerry declined to attack.

(19 – 21)

Jerry played Anti-Monitor!

Keng Yin said, “My, my . . . Alright, I’m dead.”

Turn 1:

Both players passed.

Turn 2:

Jerry recruited Hector Hammond, while Keng Yin got Scarab.

(48 – 47)

Turn 3:

Ken Yin had Space Bears, and Jerry missed his drop. He sighed. “This looks bad. I’m going to be taking a lot of damage this game, aren’t I?”

The Space Bears trampled Hector to clear a path for Scarab.

(46 – 39)

Turn 4:

Jerry recruited Dr. Ub’X, and Keng Yin brought Frostbite into the visible area in front of the Space Bears.

Jerry passed the attack, and Keng Yin swung Frostbite into Hector Hammond, clearing the path for Scarab.

(46 – 29)

Turn 5:

Keng Yin had Owlman, whilst Jerry recruited Katma Tui.

Keng Yin had Owlman swing into Katma Tui, flipping both Cosmic Conflict and Only a Friend Can Betray You so that his character would not stun. Katma Tui went down but was immediately recovered by Lanterns in Love. Keng Yin activated Frostbite to prevent Katma Tui from readying before passing the initiative.

Jerry chose not to risk further combat.

(46 – 23)

Turn 6:

Jerry recruited Grayvern, and Keng Yin found his single 6-drop! Superwoman hit play in the concealed area. Keng Yin formed Space Bears protecting Frostbite and Owlman beside Frostbite.

Dr. Ub’X swung into Space Bears and stunned them. Grayvern then took Frostbite out. Finally, Hector Hammond ran into Owlman for a double stun.
