Finals: Wess Victory vs. Anthony Justice
Tony Burian

As the players glanced over each other’s decklists (standard practice in the finals, to cut any unfair advantage to those having access to the deck lists online between Day 1 and Day 2), we’ll take a brief look at the players in the finals.

Wess Victory from Franklin, TN is a chef at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville. Wess is the Comic Image’s RAW DEAL CCG 2004 World Champion. He’s also an accomplished Star Trek CCG player, having qualified three times for Star Trek Worlds, and a Lord of the Rings TCG player as well. Wess finished in 101st place with six wins at the Pro Circuit at Gen Con Indy.

Anthony Justice from Ashland, KY is a math student currently on sabbatical (to play Vs. System?). He’s an accomplished Magic player who has since moved on to play Vs. System full time. Anthony finished 40th with eight wins at the Pro Circuit at Gen Con Indy.

Now that we have that out of the way, let's see who’s going to come out victorious and walk away with $2,500. Will it be Wess Victory’s Teen Titans? Or Anthony Justice’s Common Enemy?

Game 1

Wess started off with the initiative, and as the game began, neither player was happy with their hand. Two mulligans signaled a slow and sloppy game as both players missed their first drop. Luckily, Wess started to draw into his deck and recruited Tim Drake ◊ Robin on turn 2. Anthony had no response, and Wess quickly got on the board.

Turn 3 had Wess ahead and in control of the initiative. He recruited Dawn Granger ◊ Dove, boosting her to bring Hank Hall ◊ Hawk into play. “It's like I didn’t miss my curve at all!” proclaimed Wess with a smile. Anthony recruited She-Hulk in the front row, and moved to the combat phase. Wess team-attacked She-Hulk with Hawk and Dove, but Anthony powered up She-Hulk and stunned Dove. Anthony then sent She-Hulk into Tim Drake.

Anthony couldn’t find Dr. Doom, Diabolic Genius and was forced to play She-Thing and Robot Sentry during turn 4. Wess activated USS Argus, and recruited Terra in the front row. Terra activated, KO’ing USS Argus to stun She-Hulk. Wess then revealed another USS Argus and activated its effect. During the combat phase, Anthony attacked Tim Drake with She-Thing.

During the draw phase of turn 5, Wess activated USS Argus, and KO’d it, using Terra’s ability to stun She-Hulk. Wess recruited Garth ◊ Tempest, and put all of his Teen Titans in the front row. Anthony recruited Boris (revealing Doomstadt), who quickly ran back into the deck, bouncing a Faces of Doom to Anthony’s hand. Anthony then proceeded to recruit Dr. Doom, Diabolic Genius, chaining the activation of Mystical Paralysis on Garth. Anthony flipped Mystical Paralysis back over, where it awaited its next victim.

Wess attacked She-Thing with Tim Drake, and Anthony promptly played
