Round 6: Sau Hoang vs. Chris Simoes
Anand Khare

Both of these players are from Toronto. They each have one prior $10K Top 8 from the previous $10K Toronto.

Sau won the die roll and chose to take the even initiatives. Sau kept, but Chris mulliganed his opener. Chris had no first turn play, and Sau beat him down with Connie Webb. Sau had Talia, Beloved Betrayer on turn 2, and flipped Checkmate Safe House to team-up. Chris recruited Shape. Talia ran over the malleable mutant, and Connie got to attack directly. The endurance totals were now 50-46 in Sau’s favor.

Chris had the initiative on turn 3, and he recruited Black Panther, King of Wakanda. The original King grabbed Atlantean Trident, and Shape was given a Laser Watch. Panther protected Shape, and Chris passed. Sau used Connie Webb to fetch Ahmed Samsarra and recruited him. He also flipped Brother I Satellite discarding The Phantom Stranger, Wandering Hero to fetch Annihilation Protocol ◊ OMAC Robot. Chris sent Black Panther into Talia, and Sau activated the Safehouse to prevent a point. Shape attacked directly, and Chris discarded Light Armor to increase the pain. Sau used Ahmed to KO a face-down resource, fetching Brother Eye. In recovery, Chris led 46-37.

Sau had Fatality, Flawless Victory behind Talia for turn 4. Chris played Deathstroke the Terminator, Lethal Weapon, and recruited Image Inducer onto it. Chris set up with Panther in front of Shape and Deathstroke in the support row. Sau’s first attack sent Talia into Panther, pumping with Brother Eye. Both characters were KO’d. Fatality went after Shape, who was also KO’d. Sau passed on further attacks, and Chris sent Deathstroke into Fatality. Both characters stunned. In recovery, Sau played Enemy of My Enemy from his resource row to get Power Girl. He used Ahmed to KO the Enemy to get The Science Spire. No characters were lost, and Chris maintained a 34-23 lead.

Chris began turn 5 with Wild Ride for another Black Panther. The Panther got Flamethrower, and Chris also recruited another Shape. Chris set up with Shape protecting Deathstroke and Panther next to Shape in the front row. Sau used Ahmed to get a fresh Checkmate Safe House. He played Glorious Godfrey and flipped the Safehouse to team-up with Darkseid’s Elite. He exhausted Godfrey to exhaust Deathstroke, set Godfrey in front of Fatality, and passed. Chris was forced to pass his attack, and Fatality took down Black Panther. Chris’s lead had shrunk to 21-14.

On turn 6, Sau recruited his Power Girl. He got another Safehouse, teaming up again. Power Girl got Knight Armor, and Sau passed. Chris could only muster Melissa Gold ◊ Songbird, Heroine Unbound and an Image Inducer for Shape. As Sau declared his first attack, Chris flipped up six characters in his resource row and scooped.
