Table One: Mark Venhaus vs. Billy Zonos
Zonos was one of the Realmworx members playing TNB Blitz, while Venhaus was playing Curve Sentinels. A mulligan paid off for Zonos, as he drew into two copies of The New Brotherhood before even hitting his first draw phase. Missing his 1-drop, he got nailed by Boliver Trask, who ran off and nabbed a Sentinel Mark II for Venhaus. Zonos overcame his briefly-stalled start, hitting the field with Pyro, Mystique, and a topdecked Sabretooth, Feral Rage over the next three turns. Keeping the pressure on Venhaus for turns 2 and 3, Zonos ripped into the Sentinel ranks on turn 4—Mystique took out Sentinel Mark II, Pyro gave a Savage Beatdown to a Sentinel Mark V, and Sabretooth swung directly for 15 endurance loss.
Turn 5 was nothing but defense for Zonos. A double-recruited Scarlet Witch, Eldritch Enchantress brought Venhaus down to only 2 endurance, so all the Brotherhood characters hid in the back row to ensure reinforcement. A single copy of The Mutant Menace finished the game for 4 more endurance loss.
Game Win: Billy Zonos, on turn 5
Table Two: Vidianto Wijaya vs. Colin Rodriguez
Table two saw TNB Blitz decks square off in a mirror match. Both players drew into characters relatively well, but locations and plot twists were a different story. “He got two The New Brotherhood and a Savage Land, and I got none,” explained Vidi. Rodriguez took the game with his superior attack power. “Let it be known, though, that these pink sleeves I’m playing with were honestly played because of Vidi’s performance in Vegas [Vidi used them there]. So I was using those!” There seemed to be a good amount of mutual respect between both players.
Game Win: Colin Rodriguez, on turn 5
Table Three: Jamin Messenger VS Alex Buykov
Messenger was playing Teen Titans/F4, and went up against Buykov’s straight Titans build. Another game that ended on turn 5, the unfortunate deciding factor was bad draws on Buykov’s side. “I missed all my drops until turn 4, and even then I didn’t have the loyalty for Terra, so I had to recruit Red Star.” Messenger on the other hand curved perfectly, recruiting Invisible Woman, The Invisible Girl on turn 1, Mr. Fantastic, Reed Richards on turn 2, and Roy Harper ◊ Arsenal on turn 3. He made his team up on turn 3 as well, and never looked back. Turns 4 and 5 saw him continue to recruit characters and defend them with A Child Named Valeria, and thanks to two copies of Press The Attack, one of which was reused with Garth ◊ Tempest, Messenger was able to dish out the exact 18 endurance damage that he needed to clinch the win.
Game Win: Jamin Messenger, on turn 5
Table Four: Josh Wiitanen vs. James Adams
Adams was playing Gotham Knights/Spider-Friends, while Wiitanen was running Titans. Though both players got out to a strong start, Adams didn’t draw a single Fizzle. Wiitanen KO’d virtually everything with multiple copies of Finishing Move. “My draw was very good and I hit my perfect curve. It might have been different if he’d drawn even a single Fizzle,” Josh remarked.
Game Win: Josh Wiitanen, on turn 6
