Round 7: Tetsuya Hori vs. Yoshio Kamata
Ryan O'Connor

Both players were sitting at 4-2, so winning this round would keep them in the running. Tetsuya chose the almighty paper as his weapon of choice and got to pick odds because of it. Tetsuya was representing X-Faces against Yoshio’s Squadron.

Turn 1 saw Tetsuya lead off with Beetle ◊ Mach 1. It was answered by Yoshio with Ape X, with which he searched out and played Image Inducer. Yoshio recruited a Foxfire as his second turn’s play, transferring the Image Inducer over to her. Tetsuya played Gargantua and paid 1 resource point to give him a +1ATK / +1DEF counter. Ape went after Beetle, who was then KO’d to find Faces of Evil. Foxfire traded with Gargantua to bring both players down to 45.

Tetsuya flooded the board on turn 3 with Dallas Riordan and a boosted Yellowjacket that got a Joystick after teaming-up with Faces of Evil. Yoshio brought Shape to the party and played another Ape X, which found him a Framistat. He then exhausted Ape X to equip the Framistat to Shape for free. Dallas stunned Foxfire, and Yellowjacket team attacked with Gargantua into Shape. Yoshio played Enemy of My Enemy to ditch an Electric Eve in favor of a power-up, and then played Answer the Call to find another. All this earned him was a Mob Mentality to seal the stun. Joystick was then able to attack Ape X, but he needed to play one of the Mystic Summons from his hand to find nothing in an effort to get around the Rocket Central that Yoshio flipped. The turn ended with Tetsuya at 43 to Yoshio’s 38.

Yoshio missed completely on turn 4, while Tetsuya was able to use another mystic Summons to find Marcus Daniels ◊ Blackout, who he played. He then paid his remaining resource point to use the ability. But Yoshio proved that to be a waste by playing Other-Earth, and then sending Shape into Blackout and Foxfire into Yellowjacket. Tetsuya then passed without any attacks.

Turn 5 saw the usual fireworks from X-Faces. Tetsuya played Speed Demon, Second Chance Speedster along with Archangel, Angel, opting not to use the latter’s ability. Yoshio answered with Joystick and discarded an Airskimmer to pump Shape, allowing him to play Answer the Call for Lady Lark, Linda Lewis. Tetsuya stunned Joystick with Gargantua and Lady Lark with Archangel. Speed Demon then received two Flying Kicks to go at Shape, readying in the process. Joystick took care of Foxfire, allowing everyone else to go to the dome. After drawing for the next turn, Yoshio conceded in the face of a 21-3 deficit that he wasn’t going to be getting out of. Tetsuya Hori wins!
