The Sentry™
Card# MTU-017

While his stats aren’t much bigger than those of the average 7-drop, Sentry’s “Pay ATK” power can drastically hinder an opponent’s attacking options in the late game.

Deck Profile: Brian Eugenio
Anand Khare

Three rounds in, I think I have already found my favorite deck of the tournament. Brian Eugenio has thus far piloted his unique Doom Society deck to a 2-1 record, and his chances at making an appearance in Top 8 seem good. The odd build that he’s playing features four copies each of Slaughter Swamp, Floronic Man, Jason Woodrue, and Straight to the Grave. I sat down and asked Brian a few questions about his deck.

At first glance, this looks like a Common Enemy deck. What makes it better?

It has a stronger late game—the strongest late game. You can double-Reign of Terror with just Floronic Man, Jason Woodrue on the board. Also, the search cards aren’t specific. You can search for anything.

Did you come up with this deck yourself? How did you get the idea for this deck?

I talked with my friends, and they gave me some advice on it. But pretty much, I came up with it and tweaked it myself.

You have a lot of interesting card choices in this deck, and a lot of very odd one-ofs. Could you just go through them all, and explain what each of them are used for?

The team-ups first . . . in past $10Ks, a lot of decks were playing Foiled; that’s why three of my team-ups are locations. Metropolis is not unique, so I play two.

Stormfront-1 can be fetched with Moonglow, and Funky’s Big Rat Code is the best choice if they don’t have Foiled. Scarecrow, Professor Jonathan Crane is for the Faces of Evil matchup, as well as Child Lock matchups. Anton Hellgate is for Injustice Gang, which is a very popular deck in Southern California. Lex Luthor, Criminal Genius is an alternate 4-drop, and it also allows me to team-up characters I steal with Gorilla Grodd, putting a stop to Betrayal. Sinestro, Corrupted by the Ring is there as a 7-drop. I often want to play Dr. Doom, Diabolic Genius on turn 7, and Sinestro only costs 3 to recruit at that point. Scarecrow, Fearmonger is there for random matchups that use counters, like Curve Sentinels. Also, he’s just naturally a big character. Mikado and Mosha is for Anti-Green Lantern decks. With Slaughter Swamp, I can stun something every turn. All of the other one-ofs are just general drops.

How does a typical game proceed?

Get Doom, then progress through the game stealing characters. I have to hit Gorilla Grodd. In the late game Psycho-Pirate, Apocalypse, and Professor X, Mental Master win me the game.
