Nik Smith is a former Australian now living in Auckland, he has had huge success in other TCG’s and is looking to make a name for himself in the realm of Vs. System. David Redfern is from Brisbane and is looking to represent his city. Both players were 5-1 going into this round. Nik won the roll and chose the even initiative.
As usual, there were no plays on turn 1, and the game skipped straight to turn 2. Nik then recruited Werewolf by Night and David recruited Iron Fist, Danny Rand. Both players lost 3 endurance and play moved to turn 3. David unfortunately didn’t have a turn 3 play, while Nik only had a suboptimal Zodiak. Iron Fist attacked Zodiak and Werewolf was left to attack directly.
Blackout was actually blacked out because it was foil, and Masked Marauder came into play for David. Blackout swung into Marauder but not before David flipped up Marvel Team-Up to save his 4-drop bomb. Zodiac and Werewolf then attacked David head on. During the recovery phase, David flipped up Judge, Jury, and Executioner to remove Nik’s 4-drop—what a play!
Turn 5 was amazing for David as he recruited one of the best 5-drops in the game in Elektra, Agent of the Hand. Nik once again was below the curve and played Punisher, Jury. Of note was that Nik hadn’t flipped up any cards up yet, so maybe he had more tricks in store.
The Marauder caused Zodiak to exhaust so Elektra could have her way with Punisher. However, Nik flipped up Day of the Dead to cause a double stun, but David flipped up No Rest for the Wicked and trumped Nik. A flipped Psychoville had Nik move his Werewolf into the visible area to get hosed by Iron Fist, and left Masked Marauder to finish off Zodiak, Nik’s last character. An amazing turn for David swung the endurance totals way into his favor, leaving them at 27 to18.
Dracula, Lord of the Damned is a great play when you have the initiative, and that’s exactly what Nik did. Dave played Jaime Ortiz ◊ Damage and waited for the coming onslaught from Nik. Nik used almost every trick he had and attacked Masked Marauder with Punisher, then used Black Magic, Punisher’s Armory and Head Shot, which caused Jaime to reinforce. Dracula attacked Jaime with Day of the Dead and Mist Form, netting Nik an extra card. With Elektra on David’s side, he was able to push through lots of damage, but not enough as Nik was left on 1 endurance and David on 17.
David played the amazing common Spider-Man, which would most likely end the game for Nik, as he would not be able to attack back even if he survived. David used Spider-Man’s ability to exhaust all of Nik’s characters, and then used his entire force to attack Nik’s newly recruited Daredevil. That’s what they say is that.
David Redfern wins. |
