Chicago Shonen Jump TCG Championship Series Tournament
Metagame Staff

It’s over! Just like Shonen Jump Washington, this weekend’s tournament came down to Perfect Circle Monarch versus burn in the finals. But this time around it was the burn duelist that claimed victory, and he even did it without Crush Card Virus.

Louis Raimando had no easy task set before him today. In the Top 16 he faced the only Demise OTK in Day 2, always a nail-biting situation to be in. He then went up against Miguel Albarran, who had a whopping eight cards sided to tech burn. As if that wasn’t enough, Raimando then played Dale Bellido, armed with the now-famous Zombie Card of Safe Return deck. Raimando narrowly won the third game.

Finally he dueled Austin Ruggieri, taking a decisive 2-0 victory over Perfect Circle to claim the title of Shonen Jump Champion!

A whopping twelve different decks made Day 2 this weekend, with three burn decks and three Zombies leading the pack. Volcanics made their first-ever Top 8 finish and other surprising strategies like Dimensional Fissure made the Top 8 cut. The new promo card Dark Bribe was certainly the MVP of the day, and duelists here are clamoring to get as many copies as they can. Expect it to be a huge tech pick over the coming weeks.

Our congratulations go out to all the competitors here today, but especially to Louis Raimando, your newest Shonen Jump Champion!

Day 2
It all came down to this.
Donald Myers, playing an incredible combo-hate/monster control deck has breezed through the competition thus far in the tournament, but standing in his way is Austin Ruggieri from team Top Control and his Perfect Circle deck.
Dale has made Top 8 three times this year, and in Top 4 he’s always played against burn.
Donald Myers is playing a unique beatdown/control hybrid that can either control the opponent’s monsters, or attack without mercy.
"Will this be the time for Jerry to get his title? Or will Dale Bellido capture his second Championship win."
Of the three Zombie decks to make Day 2, two of them are paired up in the Top 16.
This match may have some big surprises, and Duran, the dark horse in this pairing, would have his work cut out for him.
A whopping twelve different decks will be represented in today’s competition.
Day 1
The dust has settled and more than 400 duelists have been pared down to a final 16.
Both of these competitors are on the bubble. The winner will proceed to Day 2. The loser will have to hope for amazing tiebreakers.
This round I got a chance to see how Samurai fare against Comic Odyssey burn.
Matt Hoey hails from Kenosha, Wisconsin, and at age 16 has attended several Shonen Jumps and posted respectable finishes.
Ever since SJC Washington, people have been asking, “Why is nobody running a Dimensional Fissure deck?”
No joke. Miguel Albarran has created a hybrid of the Volcanic and Monarch strategies that is taking the field by storm here.
Chris Pittao and Jerry Wang are both familiar faces here at the Shonen Jump circuit.
Two years ago Dale Bellido won the title of Shonen Jump Champion right here in Chicago. Now, he was 3-0 and well on his way to another Day 2 finish.
This round Adame is up against an unsung regular of the Shonen Jump circuit, another Californian duelist named Christopher Welch.
Former National Champion Max Suffridge was up against three-time Top 8’er Jeff Baumgartner.
With no standout feature match evident in Round 1, why not see what Anthony Alvarado was doing?
It’s been two weeks since Shonen Jump Washington and, now that the dueling world has had time to recover, we’re about to shake things up yet again.
